What more is there to ask of the moon and the sun?
For the spheres are bound to act like children –
when you question them one by one they just play dumb.
“How much of it’s original? How much fill-in?”
The answer comes back as a cryptic pun
in a message from one of the cosmic jongleurs,
who are astronomical kin to human players.
“We hope you’re getting on through the longueurs.
How nice to be involved in this exchange of stares!
For we’ve been observing you, too, through the ages.
You have found in us eternal rest or,
in another millennium, grids and cages.
And most recently, it seems, it’s been your quest for
phrases that might recall you to your tune.
What more is there to ask of the sun and the moon?”
