What caused you to let them out? Was it their burning
desire to have you applaud, have you see?
You thought perhaps they’d gotten lost in their yearning
and given in to the desire to merely be.
They assembled right there before your eyes
and held you enthralled in their animated text.
You dropped whatever you were doing, mesmerized
and eager to know what would happen next.
You feared the players would by and by turn to riot,
leaving nothing to the prudence of omission.
But they managed to keep themselves quiet,
desiring to conceal themselves in tradition.
You were finally greeted, no longer alone,
with the chatter of a few coming home,
who had set out much too early on their mission.
