- a descant on the Sarabande from Nikolai Kapustin's Suite in the Old Style, Op. 28 -
This whole step's fall from 6 to 5
seems simple and self-understood -
a signpost marking how I thrive
through each old project, each new live-
lihood.
It took some time to find it, though -
this odd and simple-seeming step.
It didn't shine, it didn't glow,
nor could I say I didn't know
where it was kept.
It wasn't something I'd misplaced
or lent out to a neighbor kid.
It wasn't to be tracked or traced,
nor was it something gods erased
for something bad I did.
But lo, one day I found it there
as something I could claim as mine -
a single, simple golden stair
where I might henceforth take my air
and contemplate the rare and fine.
With inner faith and gratitude
I've penned this lilting sarabande,
encapsulating this day's mood
and Being's Author's attitude
and all the things in life of which I'm fond.
